Notre Dame to hire Alabama analyst Max Bullough to staff
Notre Dame is expected to hire Alabama analyst Max Bullough, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz. Bullough is expected to replace James Laurinaitis.
Bullough played linebacker in the NFL and could step right into Laurinaitis’ old role. Laurinaitis was a grad assistant and assistant linebackers coach for Notre Dame last season.
He left for the same position at Ohio State, his alma mater, ahead of next fall.
Bullough started his coaching career in 2019 as a grad assistant at Cincinnati under Luke Fickell. He spent the last three seasons at Alabama and was on the staff of the 2020 CFP National Championship team.
Bullough played at Michigan State and went undrafted in 2014. He played from 2014-18 in the NFL, spending three seasons with the Houston Texans.
Bullough did not play in 2017 and latched on to the Cleveland Browns practice squad in 2018.

Less than a week before joining Notre Dame’s staff, Bullough received a promotion at Alabama under Nick Saban, according to AL.com’s Mike Rodak.

Rodak reported the news on Monday that the former Houston Texans linebacker — who had been working with the Crimson Tide over the last three seasons as a graduate assistant — was taking on a bigger role in Tuscaloosa.
“Alabama has added Max Bullough as a football analyst. The former Michigan State and Houston Texans LB had been a graduate assistant for the Tide the past three seasons, working with inside linebackers,” tweeted Rodak. “Alabama also re-hired Jake Long as an analyst, as had been reported.”
Additionally, Rodak confirmed prior reports that Alabama is also bringing back Jake Long as an analyst after he previously was a member of the team’s staff.
Alas, Nick Saban must believe Max Bullough has a bright future in coaching, as the 30-year old former linebacker is taking on an enlarged role. It’ll be interesting to see how far he can climb among the ranks, but there’s confidence in his ability.
