Micah Shrewsberry encourages Notre Dame to reach out and take a win: 'Just touch the stove'
Micah Shrewsberry and Notre Dame lost their fourth game in a row to fall to 7-13 on the season. This time, it was another loss to Boston College.
It was the second loss to the Eagles in the last three games over two weeks for the Fighting Irish. The way Shrewsberry sees it, Notre Dame is right there.
Unfortunately, almost only counts in horseshoes. But, the head coach had an interesting analogy to analyze the 61-58 loss on their home floor.
“It’s right there for you,” Shrewsberry said postgame. “If we were getting blown out every day, then that’d be a problem. But it’s like man if I change one or two things, probably win it. So like, there is hope. You can see hope, you can see progress … It’s there for you. Whenever you want to do it, you can get a win. Whenever you want. They’re there for you. All these opportunities are there for you.
“Sometimes you got to reach out and take it instead of like worrying about whether the stove is hot or not. Touch the stove. (expletive) might hurt a bit, but who cares? Touch the stove man.”
So is it an effort issue? There were similar comments from Shrewsberry following the team’s loss against Miami earlier this week.

“I mean, I was just disappointed in our effort; really, just our effort level to start the game in the first half,” Shrewsberry stated to open his postgame press conference, noting that his front-court was allowing the Hurricane stars to have their way in the post.
“They got two guys that can rebound. (Norchad) Omier rebounds, Matthew Cleveland rebounds. And we treated Omier like he had some disease that we didn’t want to get close to or we’d get sick, and we just let him operate and do whatever he wanted to. Then, Matthew Cleveland’s in there getting offensive rebounds to start the game and that set the tone for what happened.”
JR Konieczny led the way for Notre Dame Saturday with 15 points, eight rebounds in 35 minutes. Braeden Shrewsberry added 14 points and two rebounds while Markus Burton had 10 points, two rebounds and seven assists.
Notre Dame will have a few days to reset to try and break the losing streak and get back on track. Shrewsberry and company return to the court Wednesday.
On that day, the Fighting Irish will head out to Virginia to take on the Cavaliers.
