Notre Dame played a close contest throughout with Georgia Tech on Tuesday but earned a win. It’s one Micah Shrewsberry needed in South Bend, getting back to .500 on the season. Even so, emotions from the fan base appear to be pretty high.

Before ending his postgame press conference, Shrewsberry revealed a text he received during the game. Of course, he did not get a chance to read it until walking off the court but decided to share its contents with the media. Shrewsberry received the text before getting the win and somebody was clearly upset.

“I was walking, grabbing my phone so I don’t have to go back to the locker room,” Shrewsberry began. “And I got this text at 10:15 so obviously, the game is still going on. Whoever sent this, I appreciate you. Thank you for being cool. ‘WTF am I watching? Do you have any plays written up because holy s, your team is unorganized as hell. What are they paying you for?’

“Glad it didn’t have a name attached to it. But that right there, fellas, is a lesson in humility. As good as you feel, some people think you stink.”

Shrewsberry said the message was sent around 10:15 p.m., just an hour after the game got underway. The anonymous fan presumably let his thoughts known of the head coach early in the second half. With 17:35 remaining, Georiga Tech scored to make the game 43-37. Their lead did grow to six and seven at points but in the final minutes, Notre Dame went on a 13-0 run to close out the game.

You have to wonder how the fan now feels after the Fighting Irish emerged victorious. Especially since they have been publicly called out by Shrewsberry during a press conference.

Those who participated in the win certainly feel good. Shrewsberry is taking the text as a lesson, never letting himself get too high. Notre Dame beating Georgia Tech is the right step in the direction but there is at least one more doubter out there.

Next up will be a road trip to Miami, giving Notre Dame an opportunity to get back to .500 in conference play. It would also be the Irish’s third consecutive win, giving them a winning streak for the first time since December. If there is any hope of making a push down the stretch, wins will have to begin to pile up.
