In his first season as the head basketball coach at Notre Dame, Micah Shrewsberry has seen his team struggle in the second halves of games. That was a problem that once again became an issue in Saturday’s loss to Florida State.

After the game, Shrewsberry voiced his frustrations with the team’s second half struggles, explaining that they’ve tried multiple different things and are still searching for answers.

“We’ve changed our halftime locker room routine,” Micah Shrewsberry said. “We’ve changed when I go talk to the team. We’ve tried playing music at halftime. Right? I don’t know what it is. It’s our guys just being able to have somebody grab us and pull us all together before we go back out there and say, ‘Come on. This is it. This is our push and our chance to start well.’”

Notre Dame is 7-10 this season, but that record could be much better with stronger second half performances. In four straight games, the Irish have been outscored in the second half. That includes an overtime win over Georgia Tech.

“We’re just not doing it. Maybe we don’t need to go out at all and we just stay out there. Warm up, talk on the bench like a YMCA team or something but I don’t have an answer for that right now,” Shrewsberry said.

“We’re trying different things. We’re trying to do stuff. Like, Tae [Davis] being hurt limits who you start, who you play, and how you rotate. So, that hurt us a bit with changing personnel. I’m gonna start cutting up oranges and giving them to people.”

Next up for Shrewsberry and the Irish is a trip to Boston College on Monday.

Micah Shrewsberry labels Tae Davis as day-to-day

Following the loss to Florida State, Micah Shrewsberry shared that forward Tae Davis is going to be day-to-day moving forward for Notre Dame.

“He landed funny yesterday and he wanted to play today. So he’s day-to-day, so we’ll see. You know it’s a quick turnaround playing Boston College on Monday. Appreciate that ACC. Last I checked … there’s only two teams in the league that play on one day rest this whole season, right? Not that I went through everybody’s schedule and checked that out to see if anybody else plays on one day rest, but we do and there’s no excuses for us,” Shrewsberry said.

“But hopefully he can take the rest of today and tomorrow and be back to help us. If not we got to fight. We got to fight. No excuses. No excuses for us not to go there and fight.”
