WATCH: Notre Dame commit Sedrick Irvin Jr. breaks defender's ankles
Fresh off his commitment to Notre Dame just two days, 2023 consensus four-star running back Sedrick Irvin Jr. returned the field with his Gulliver Prep (Fla.) squad Friday night. It didn’t take him long to make a play that will certainly land on his highlight reel.
The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Irvin Jr. scored two first-half touchdowns for the Raiders, but his 15-yard catch and run touchdown is a perfect example of what makes him such a sought-after recruit in 2023. Irvin catches a short swing pass, gets into the open field and jukes a defender, who falls face first to the turf as Irvin Jr. bolts past him and escapes another tackle into the end zone.
Irvin Jr. is the son of former Michigan State star running back Sedrick “Swervin” Irvin, who ran for more than 3,500 yards and 35 touchdowns at Michigan State from 1996-99. His son, though, spurned the Spartans for Notre Dame.

“I have always been intrigued by the tradition at Notre Dame,” Irvin Jr. said. “I’m big on brotherhood. Notre Dame kind of completes that package.”
As a sophomore last season at Gulliver Prep, Irvin Jr. rushed for 552 yards, six touchdowns, and averaged nearly seven yards a carry in a COVID-shortened five-game season. He is the fifth player to commit to Notre Dame for 2023.
