In his first full year on the job, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman has put together one of the country’s best recruiting classes, despite some struggles on the field. A large part of that class — both literally and figuratively — is On3 five-star offensive tackle Charles Jagusah.

The 6-foot-6, 300-pounder chose the Irish over Michigan, Missouri, Arkansas and a number of other programs back in June, and along with five-star Denton (Texas) Guyer safety Peyton Bowen, he’s one of the jewels of Freeman’s inaugural recruiting class.

On Saturday, the Fighting Irish coaching staff paid a visit to Jagusah and his family as the Early Signing Period looms just a few weeks away.

Jagusah is the No. 40 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 4 offensive tackle and the No. 1 senior recruit in the state of Illinois.

On3, however, is significantly higher on him than other recruiting services, as shown in the Industry Comparison. In the most recent On300 rankings, he was tabbed as the nation’s No. 10 overall recruit and top offensive tackle.

Charles Jagusah Scouting Summary

“Big-framed offensive tackle who plays with natural coordination, balance and movement skills. Hits high-end thresholds at the position from a length and frame perspective. A light-footed, easy mover who plays with innate flexibility at his size. Has a strong base that he uses to balance and create power. Has some dominant flashes as a drive blocker and finisher. Also shows some natural tools that project well as a pass protector. Doubles as a defensive tackle at the prep level and received his initial offers on that side of the ball. Is one of the top heavyweight wrestlers in the Midwest, turning in a 41-0 state championship season on the mat as a junior. Does not face top competition and will need to adjust to the uptick in talent level once he gets to college.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings
