Notre Dame is set to lose a key piece of its staff under Micah Shrewsberry. Director of recruiting Brian Snow is leaving the program, according to ESPN.

Jeff Borzello first reported the news on Wednesday afternoon. It comes amid a slew of departures from the program.

Brian Snow is a former recruiting analyst turned college staffer, having spent time at both Scout.com and 247Sports. He got into the coaching side of things and joined Shrewsberry’s staff at Penn State four years ago.

Snow spent two years with Shrewsberry at Penn State, followed by two years with him at Notre Dame. Notre Dame’s recruiting efforts took a noted tick up following his arrival.

A Notre Dame bio for Brian Snow lists some of his accomplishments. They are numerous:

“Snow’s recruiting efforts were one of the main reasons for Penn State signing back-to-back top-30 nationally-ranked recruiting classes – the first time that had happened in program history – not to mention the highest-ranked recruiting class in Penn State men’s basketball history. Furthermore, the 2022 signing day class all flipped to join Coach Shrewsberry at Notre Dame – giving the Irish a top-25 ranked class.”

Needless to say, Shrewsberry and the Fighting Irish will have some replacing to do with Brian Snow departing. And not all from the coaching ranks.

Notre Dame loses a talented guard

In addition to the Brian Snow departure, Notre Dame guard JR Konieczny has entered the NCAA transfer portal, per On3’s Jamie Shaw. Konieczny spent four seasons with the Fighting Irish, including a redshirt year in the 2022-23 campaign.

Konieczny played in all 32 of Notre Dame’s games this season and made four starts. He averaged 4.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 16.3 minutes per game. He shot 39.7% from the field and 28.8% from beyond the arc.

Konieczny had his best game of the season in Notre Dame’s 69-64 triumph over Syracuse on Dec. 7. In the victory, Konieczny exploded for a season-high 15 points in 29 minutes while shooting 6-12 from the floor.

Konieczny’s best season was his redshirt sophomore year when he averaged career-highs of 7.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. However, it’s also worth noting he averaged 22.7 minutes per outing, over six more minutes a night than this past season.

On3’s Grant Grubbs also contributed to this report.
