Notre Dame EDGE Aiden Gobaira officially enters NCAA transfer portal
Notre Dame EDGE Aiden Gobaira has entered the transfer portal according to On3’s Pete Nakos. Officially parting ways with the program as a graduate transfer after being placed on medical scholarship June.
Gobaira played in just one game with one snap in his college career against Boston College in 2022. Suffering from a torn ACL injury during fall camp in 2023 that led to him missing all of spring practice this year and eventually being placed on medical scholarship alongside defensive lineman Tyson Ford. Putting an end to their careers with the Fighting Irish, but allowing them to be Notre Dame students with the option to resume their careers at a different program.
Gobaira’s entry into the transfer portal reopens his recruitment and allows him to join another team ahead of the 2025 football season. An option Ford exercised as well by entering the portal on October 1.
Gobaira attended Chantilly High School in Virginia where he was a four-star prospect. Ranked the No. 20 EDGE and the No. 177 overall player in the country for the 2022 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. A 6-foot-5, 249-pound defender listed as a defensive lineman on Notre Dame’s roster who had offers from Penn State, Michigan State, and Kentucky, among 13 others.

There’s no question that Gobaira was a prospect with a lot of potential, but injuries kept him from reaching that recently in South Bend. As he’ll now look to find new success and finish out his collegiate career on a positive note for a different program moving forward.
