The embarrassing season for Florida State continued Saturday as it suffered a blowout loss against Notre Dame. Fighting Irish fans took the opportunity to rub it in by using the Seminoles’ own celebrations against them.

The crowd at Notre Dame Stadium broke out into the FSU War Chant fight song and also did the tomahawk chop following the 52-3 win. It had to sting for the Seminoles, who dropped to 1-9 on the season.

Florida State scored its only points of the game against Notre Dame on its first offensive drive. After that, it was all Fighting Irish as they rolled to the easy win.

Riley Leonard finished the game with a pair of rushing touchdowns and added another through the air. Meanwhile, FSU quarterback Brock Glenn was a mere 5-of-18 passing for 51 yards and two interceptions.

Florida State is coming off of a season in which it won the ACC Championship and finished the regular season undefeated. That only makes the performance this season even more puzzling.

A lot of it comes down to quarterback play as the Seminoles saw Jordan Travis graduate and brought in transfer DJ Uiagalelei as his replacement. Uiagalelei was later benched in favor of Glenn as the offense has failed to reach the 20-point mark in every game since the season opener.

FSU has not won fewer than three games in any season since 1974, but that is a real possibility with only two games left. One would think the Seminoles can get a win in two weeks against Charleston Southern. However, they aren’t likely to be favored in the final game of the season against Florida.

Seminoles coach Mike Norvell is now 32-26 across five seasons in Tallahassee. He signed an eight-year extension after leading FSU to the ACC title last season, so he is under contract with the team through 2031.

Given that, it would be surprising if Florida State made a change this season. Norvell would be owed roughly $63 million if he were fired at the end of this year.
