Former Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton has scheduled a visit with the Detroit Lions, who own the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The projected top-10 pick will meet with the organization sometime later this week.

After the Lions visit, Kyle Hamilton will have met with five of the eight teams which own top 10 picks in the upcoming NFL Draft. He has received high praise from NFL analysts in recent weeks, leading many to believe he could become one of the first names off the board.

Over three seasons at Notre Dame, Hamilton made 138 tackles with eight interceptions and 16 pass deflections. He also added 7.5 tackles for loss in 31 career games.

A former four-star recruit from Atlanta, Georgia, Hamilton ranked No. 63 overall in the 2019 On3 Consensus before establishing himself as a star at Notre Dame over his three seasons.

Mina Kimes on Kyle Hamilton

Among the many analysts praising Kyle Hamilton’s draft stock, ESPN’s Mina Kimes believes that the Fighting Irish star deserves the highest imaginable honor.

“I am so happy because I was so nervous about saying that Kyle Hamilton is the best player in this draft,” Kimes said. “And maybe more importantly, the best player for this moment in football in response to the explosion in passing over the last decade, defenses are now asking so much out of safeties. More disguise, more versatility and versatility is what this guy has in spades.”

Kimes believes the safety is truly a generational type player that can be the building block for a team looking to reassemble its defense.

“I mean he can play deep middle, he can play split safety, he can play in the box, he can play in the slot, he can blitz.,” Kimes continued. “And he has the size, the range and the ball skills to do all of those things at an elite level. I don’t know how high he’s going to get drafted, he’s a safety, but if I was rebuilding defense would want to rebuild the whole thing around this guy.”
