Notre Dame injury updates: Marcus Freeman gives latest on multiple players
After getting a win against Georgia Tech, head coach Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame are turning their attention to a traditional rival in Navy. With that, the Irish are looking to be as healthy as possible going into the game.
At the start of the week leading up to the game, Freeman shared an injury update on multiple players, including kicker Mitch Jeter and offensive lineman Billy Schrauth.
“Couple injury updates,” Marcus Freeman said. “Mitch Jeter will still be questionable. We’ll see if he can give it a go. He tried to warm up [against Georgia Tech] but wasn’t able to feel like he could contribute in a way he needed to. So, he’ll still be questionable.”
Mitch Jeter transferred to Notre Dame after spending four seasons at South Carolina. Since getting to South Bend, he’s played in six games. He’s made all 20 of his extra point attempts on the year and five of his seven field goal attempts.
In the second half of the Stanford win, Jeter injured his hip on a kickoff. Since then, he’s largely been replaced by a pair of specialists. Zac Yoakam has handled extra points and field goals while Eric Goins has taken over on kickoffs.
The other injury that Marcus Freeman shared an update on was offensive lineman Billy Schrauth. He injured his ankle against Purdue after starting the first three games of the season at right guard. Luckily, he got a more positive update, with Schrauth being available even though his role is still undetermined.

“Billy Schrauth will be available, but in a role to be determined,” Freeman said. “That will be based off this week’s practice. Not one hundred percent sure what his role will be yet, but he will be available as he returns back to play.”
Graduate junior Rocco Spindler has replaced Billy Schrauth along the Notre Dame offensive line. However, he’s been inconsistent.
On the whole, the injuries are starting to add up for Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame. Star defensive back Benjamin Morrison recently was ruled out for the rest of the season with an injury. Defensive lineman Boubacar Traore is also out for the season. He was replacing Jordan Botelho, who is also out for the season. This came after the Irish already lost offensive lineman Charles Jagusah for the season in camp, and center Ashton Craig in the Purdue game.
For a Notre Dame team that wants to make a College Football Playoff run, finding a way to get healthy and not have too many more injuries is going to be vital for the Irish.
