Notre Dame reveals new green jerseys in hilarious video
Notre Dame has a long tradition of wearing green jerseys for big games. Now, the Irish are introducing a new green jersey for the 2023 season.
To announce the new green jerseys, Notre Dame made a video spoofing the movie “Jerry McGuire.” In the video, head coach Marcus Freeman starred, alongside star players Sam Hartman and Audric Estime. With the caption, “You had me at hello,” the Irish posted the video to Twitter.
You can watch that video, here:
Put aside that nobody involved is a professional actor and they likely never will be. It’s an incredibly funny video. Audric Estime gets Marcus Freeman to shout, “Show me the green jerseys,” repeatedly over the phone. This, obviously, leads to some confusion and panic in the Notre Dame football offices as they need to get Freeman his jerseys.
At that point, the credits roll alongside Hartman and Estime wearing Notre Dame’s new green jerseys. The new ones are kelly green with white letters that are outlined in gold. On top of that, the Irish will also wear kelly green pants. That’s new, with the Irish usually wearing gold pants with the green jerseys.
The most recent version of Notre Dame’s green jerseys were also kelly green. However, the lettering on them was navy. Previously, the Irish wore a darker, forest green uniform for big games.
The Irish have a long history of wearing green jerseys, but the most famous instance was in the 1977 ‘Green Jersey Game’ against USC. In that game, USC entered South Bend as the favorite but Notre Dame managed to dominate the Trojans, sparking a national championship run.

The video didn’t announce when Notre Dame will rock the green jerseys, but there are plenty of opportunities against teams like USC and Ohio State this season.
Marcus Freeman says Notre Dame hit a home run with Sam Hartman
According to Marcus Freeman, Notre Dame hit a home run by landing transfer quarterback Sam Hartman from Wake Forest.
“Well, I think that’s one of the main points we made. When Sam Hartman got into the portal we said, ‘Hey, we are gonna look for the best quarterback available that can help us win, that fits our locker room, and fits our team and our university.’ Sam did that, number one, as a person,” Freeman said.
“He was the type of person we needed in our locker room, but two, the ability to sell him on, ‘Hey, man, this is a pro-style type offense. This is something that will help you as you transition to the NFL, but also, you know, this is a program that’s going to compete for national championships. That’s our goal, and we want you a part of this thing.’ And so it was a perfect fit.”
