Notre Dame is losing a veteran wide receiver to the NCAA Transfer Portal. Fighting Irish wideout Jayden Thomas has entered the portal, On3 has learned.

Thomas is transferring after playing in all 16 games this season. He finished the year with 18 catches for 167 yards and two touchdowns. He added three carries for 27 yards on the ground, while helping Notre Dame advance to the national championship game.

Jayden Thomas is transferring after spending four seasons with the Fighting Irish. He signed with Notre Dame as a three-star recruit and the No. 63 receiver in the country in the class of 2021, per the On3 Industry Rankings.

After redshirting during the 2021 season, Thomas had a breakout year in 2022, appearing in all 13 games and making seven starts. He finished third on the Notre Dame team with 25 receptions and was second on the team in yards with 362. Jayden Thomas also caught three touchdowns that season.

During the 2023 season, Thomas had another solid year. He played in 11 games and made five starts while catching 21 passes for 310 yards and two touchdowns.

His numbers dipped a little bit in 2024, but he was still a solid contributor for a Notre Dame team that surprised everyone by reaching the national title game, before falling to Ohio State.

Now Jayden Thomas is entering the transfer portal, looking for somewhere else where he can be a key contributor.

Before attending Notre Dame, Thomas played high school football at Pace Academy in Atlanta. He is from Paulding County, Georgia.

Marcus Freeman emphatically sums up Notre Dame’s ‘strong message’ to college football

The season did not end the way that Jayden Thomas or anyone at Notre Dame hoped that it would, but it was without a doubt still a magical year for the Fighting Irish.

Following the loss to Ohio State in the national title game, Marcus Freeman shared with ESPN what his message was to his team.

“There’s not many words you can say when you’ve got a group like that that’s hurting,” he said. “I just told them I love them and I’m so proud to be a part of this season with them. There’s a lot of guys that are hurting, but they gave it everything they have.

“We didn’t get the job done tonight and we gotta figure out why. There’s reasons for it. But what they did for this school and this football program and, I think, for people that watch college football, I think they sent a strong message about being selfless, working your tails off and putting others before yourself.”
