P Bryce McFerson visiting Notre Dame after decommitting from Wake Forest
Indiana Trail (N.C.) Metrolina Christian Academy Bryce McFerson is one of the best punters in the country.
He is the No. 3 punter in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Chris Sailer Kicking rates McFerson as the No. 1 punter in the country and Kohl’s Professional Camps considers him the No. 2 punter in the nation.
He is a blue-chip punter, and it looked like ascending Wake Forest was going to get him to campus. He committed to the Demon Deacons in September 2020 but decommitted Friday, announcing the news on Twitter.
“After much thought and consideration, I have decided to decommit from Wake Forest,” Bryce McFerson tweeted. “I would like to thank Coach Lineburg and Coach Clawson for believing in me and giving me the opportunity at such an incredible place.”

He was already planning on taking an official visit to Notre Dame this weekend before announcing his decommitment. He tweeted before the game that he has now picked up an offer from the school.
Notre Dame has the No. 6 recruiting class in the 2022 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking. While a commitment from Bryce McFerson wouldn’t move the needle for the Fighting Irish in the rankings, it would be a major coup for Notre Dame.
“Bryce is a phenomenal high school punting and kicking prospect,” reads Chris Sailer Kicking’s scouting report on McFerson. “He is a great looking athlete with a powerful leg. His punting is a major strength. He hits a FBS level ball and his consistency is impressive. His feet and hands are quick and efficient…A phenomenal directional Punter. Also a fantastic kicker. He does a great job on field goal. Bryce hits a clean ball and has 55+ yard range off the ground. His kickoffs are strong, college ready. A competitor that kicks with confidence. Bryce has a bright future with continued hard work. I look forward to seeing what the future holds. Bryce is a fine young man with a great attitude and work ethic. One of the hardest workers out there. He has all the tools to dominate the next level.”
