Notre Dame signee Parker Friedrichsen has received his release from his National Letter of Intent following head coach Mike Brey’s announcement to retire at the conclusion of the 2022-23 season. He has now officially reopened his recruitment.

Friedrichsen — a 6-foot-4 shooting guard out of Bixby (Okla.) High — committed to the Fighting Irish in September, before signing in November. He chose Notre Dame over Davidson, Nebraska, Northwestern, and Rice. Friedrichsen was also previously committed to Oklahoma State before reopening his recruitment last May.

This is Notre Dame’s second loss in the 2023 recruiting class as the Irish also lost the commitment of On3 four-star small forward Brady Dunlap earlier in the week. Only one player remains signed in the senior class; three-star point guard Markus Burton.

Friedrichsen’s statement

Parker Friedrichsen sent the following statement to On3 regarding his release:

“Due to the announcement of coach Brey’s retirement at the end of the season, I have received my release from Notre Dame and will explore other options at this time. I am happy for Coach Brey and want to wish him well in his next step. I can’t thank the staff enough for recruiting me.”
