When Audric Estimé is done with football — which might not be for a while yet — the current Notre Dame running back plans to become a lawyer. And he first figured he might be good at it when he was still a kid.

Estimé, in an interview with On3’s Andy Staples, shared how arguments with his older brother and cousins kindled a passion for the verbal sparring. Plus, a lot of the time, he knew he was right and his siblings and cousins were wrong.

“I always know I’m right, even though they don’t think I’m right, I know I’m right,” Estimé said with a grin. “It’s something that I just have a strong passion for is arguing and getting my point across and that comes with a lot of work and I feel like that’s some work I’m willing to embrace.”

But Estimé, now a star running back for Notre Dame, doesn’t plan to jump straight into law school following his undergraduate degree with the Irish.

He has plans to keep playing football for as long as he can. But he reflected on working to get into a position where he feels comfortable about his chances to get a spot in a law school class however many years down the line. A strong undergraduate track record at Notre Dame is certainly a good place to start.

“So I plan to play football for as long as possible and whenever that day it comes to an end, I’m going to get right back into it. I’m going to hopefully — I’ve put myself in position right now to be successful and be able to get into a good law school, so hopefully when football’s all said and done I can just hop right into it,” Estimé said.

Staples pointed out being a Notre Dame alumni can open a lot of doors.

Estimé hopes he’s right, pointing out the last week or so had seen an outpouring of support for alumni.

“Yeah, Notre Dame has the best network in the country, I feel like. That’s part of the reason why I came here. And especially times like this when your team’s doing really well and everyone on campus, like the Ohio State game, we had everyone. A big time name coming on campus. It’s just that Notre Dame provides the opportunity that other schools might not have,” Estimé said. “Some guys take advantage of that and I’m trying my best to take advantage of that network.”
