WATCH: Kevin Austin Jr. shows off impressive speed at NFL Scouting Combine
Notre Dame fans already knew Kevin Austin Jr. was fast. He showed off that speed at the NFL Combine on Thursday with an impressive showing in the 40-yard dash.
Austin ran a 4.40 40-yard dash on his first try and ran it in 4.37 seconds during his second try at the combine on Thursday. It was quite a showing from the former Fighting Irish wide receiver, who emerged as one of the team’s top targets in 2021.
Earlier in the day, Austin hit a 39-inch vertical, which tied for the third-highest jump of the day, and had the No. 2 broad jump with 11 inches. Although Austin hasn’t shown up in any first-round mock drafts, he’s trying to boost his stock — and he turned some heads with his performance so far.
Austin had 48 receptions for 888 yards and seven touchdowns to help Notre Dame to an 11-2 record in 2021. In the Fighting Irish’s Fiesta Bowl loss to Oklahoma State, he had eight catches for 115 yards and a touchdown. His departure is a big one as Marcus Freeman gets ready for his first season as Notre Dame head coach.
The NFL Combine continues through the weekend in Indianapolis ahead of the draft, which is coming up April 28-30 in Las Vegas.

Jahan Dotson runs blazing 40 time at the NFL Scouting Combine
The 2022 NFL Scouting Combine is officially underway in Indianapolis. Thursday has been the day for on-field drills and tests for wide receivers of the class. Penn State’s Jahan Dotson clocked in at a 4.41 40-yard dash in his first attempt.
Even in a very deep wide receiver class, Dotson stands out as one of the best. In his second attempt, Dotson ran a 4.47 40-yard time.
Dotson is the No. 25 overall prospect on NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah’s Big Board. Despite inconsistent play by the Penn State quarterbacks this season, he became the only Power 5 receiver with at least 90 receptions (91), 1,180 yards (1,182) and 12 touchdown receptions (12) through 12 games. He also rushed for a touchdown and completed a pair of passes for 43 yards.
