WATCH: Kyren Williams gives confident take on what he'll bring to the NFL
Notre Dame running back Kyren Williams is eager to contribute to an NFL team. At the NFL combine in Indianapolis on Friday, he explained how his physical approach to the game will help him at the next level.
“I just pride myself on being a complete back,” Williams said. “I don’t shy away from contact. I’m not really worried if a back is trying to run me over. I’m just trying to stick my nose in there because that’s the kind of football player that I am. …But I’ve also got a whole lot more that I can do besides that.”
The 5-foot-9, 194-pound running back spent three seasons with the Fighting Irish before declaring for the draft this offseason. He spent the past two seasons as the starter, surpassing the 1,000-yard rushing mark in both years. Williams finished this past season as Notre Dame’s leading rusher with 1,002 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground. He is just as big of a threat coming out of the backfield, having 78 receptions for 675 receiving yards and four touchdowns in his college career.

After posting a disappointing 4.72 time on his first 40-yard dash attempt, Kyren Williams finished with an official time of 4.65 at the NFL Combine on Friday. That ranked him last among the 27 running backs to participate in the drill. The Notre Dame product also posted a 32-inch vertical jump and a 9’8″ on the broad jump.
Friday’s combine will not be the last chance Williams has to impress scouts ahead of the NFL Draft in April. He will also get the opportunity to participate in the Fighting Irish’s Pro Day on March 25, where he’ll aim to improve on his 40-yard dash in particular. Williams is currently listed as the No. 4 running back prospect on CBS Sports’ big board, but finds himself in danger of slipping following this weekend.
