Derby (Kan.) four-star running back Dylan Edwards is one of the best running backs in the 2023 cycle. On Friday night against Wichita (Kan.) Maize South, the Notre Dame commit showed that he is a threat in the receiving game as well by making a great cut on a touchdown catch.

Edwards reeled in a pass downfield near multiple defenders. He then backpedaled away from a would-be tackler and moved to his left, giving himself an open lane to the end zone.

Edwards is the No. 171 overall prospect and No. 8 running back in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 2 player in Kansas.

The four-star was originally committed to Kansas State. However, he backed off his pledge to the Wildcats on July 29 and chose the Fighting Irish on Aug. 6.

Edwards has an On3 NIL Valuation of $42K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Dylan Edwards On3 Scouting Summary

The following is the On3 Scouting Summary for Dylan Edwards:

“Diminutive playmaker with game-breaking potential. A threat to score anytime he gets the ball in space. Has a smaller build for a running back prospect, checking in at a shade over 5-foot-8, 155 pounds the off-season prior to his senior year. A dominant runner and playmaker at the prep level, rushing for 2,603 yards, and 38 touchdowns while averaging a gaudy 12.5 yards per carry as a junior. Regularly rips off long runs, flashing outstanding burst to go with the speed to pull away once in the open field. Validated his play speed by winning the Fastest Man competition at Under Armour Future 50.

“Uses his lateral agility to make defenders miss tackles in confined spaces. Also shows good field vision, often cutting back across the field. Makes plays in a variety of ways – as a traditional running back, on end arounds, as a receiver out of the backfield or split out wide. Also dangerous as a kick and punt returner. Does not play top competition in Kansas and is almost always the top athlete on the field. Will need to continue adding mass to sustain a sizable workload at the college level. Can also continue improving his ball skills.”
