Five-star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith of Hollywood (FL) Chaminade-Madonna Prep announced his commitment to Ohio State Wednesday evening.

The 6-foot-3, 195 pounder chose the Buckeyes over Miami, USC, Georgia, FSU, and Florida.

Smith on why he chose Ohio State

“What stood out to me the most was brotherhood and I could see it,” Smith said. “It was obvious from the start with the players, with the coaches, and how they ran practice. I knew that there was no place like it and it was special, and it was a great opportunity I couldn’t miss out on.”

Relationships with the coaching staff

“The coaches I’m the closest with are Coach Day, Coach Hartline, Coach Kee,” Smith said. “The conversation is we need guys like you to come up to Ohio State and make plays. Coach Hartline keeps it real with me and tells me I am needed here.”

Ohio State’s track record for producing 1st round WRs stood out

“That means a lot to me,” Smith said. “It shows me that Coach Hartline is developing guys. I know coach Hartline will develop me to be the best version of myself into becoming a first round pick like he did with Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave”

Jeremiah Smith Scouting Summary

“Big, skilled receiver with fluidity and savvy for the position,” On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote. “Measured in at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds prior to his junior season. Had a breakout 2021 season, helping his Chaminade-Madonna team to a state championship. Turned in several strong performances, including a big state title game. Polished route-runner at this early stage. Smooth mover with some technical refinement that allows for separation. Shows good ball skills with his ability to track the football over his shoulder.”

Smith currently ranks as the No. 2 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting services. He also tabs in as the No.1 wide receiver  and the No.1 player in the state of Florida.
