Quinshon Judkins just wants to learn and Ohio State running backs coach Carlos Locklyn called him a “sponge.”

An already established running back after his time at Ole Miss, Judkins is in a loaded offense with the Buckeyes. It features fellow star running back TreVeyon Henderson, quarterback Will Howard and wide receiver Emeka Egbuka.

With what Locklyn sees, it’s easy to determine Judkins will be highly successful at Ohio State.

“With him, as I tell him all the time to stay in speed when he runs, he’s such a powerful runner,” Locklyn said. “He knows the things he got to work, as far as his pad leverage. But like I said, he’s very gifted, but the thing I’ve seen him get better at the most, is he’s a sponge.

“He’s taking in everything. A great attitude, like I said, he has a growth mindset, and he can take my coaching because I’m barking at him everyday … Because the kids want to be coached, and it’s my job to coach them.”

Quinshon Judkins not worried about carries

Over the course of two seasons at Ole Miss, Judkins had 545 carries, 2,752 yards, 31 touchdowns, five yards per carry, 37 catches, 281 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions.

As a member of the Class of 2022, Judkins was a three-star recruit out of Pike Road (Ala.) High, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 22 overall prospect in the state, the No. 37 running back in the class and the No. 488 overall prospect in the class.

It sounds like Judkins just wants to contribute to a winning team, no matter his role. Despite being one of the best running backs in the country, he’ll do what’s asked.

“My job is to come in and run football and just be the best teammate that I can be to my teammates and support my team overall,” Judkins said after practice on Wednesday. “I don’t really focus on how many carries I get or you know, things like that I just come in and just do my job.”

Ohio State will kick off the season on Aug. 31 in Ohio Stadium against Akron before beginning Big Ten play on Sept. 28 against Michigan State. Matchups against Oregon, Nebraska, Penn State, and of course, Michigan loom as well.
