Ohio State G Scotty Middleton missed their last game on Friday due to an injury. Now, after the weekend, Chris Holtmann has shared the latest on the freshman’s status moving forward.

Holtmann provided the update on Middleton during his press conference on Monday. He said it was a foot injury that he suffered in practice on Thursday. It kept him out of their loss at Iowa to end last week but Holtmann said he returned to do some work in practice on Sunday.

“Day-to-day – a foot injury. Did it in practice the day before the game,” Holtmann said.

“He’s day-to-day,” said Holtmann. “He did some things yesterday so he’s moving around a little bit better.”

Middleton has appeared in 19 contests over his first collegiate season in Columbus. In those games, he has averaged 4.3 points and 1.5 rebounds in nearly 17 minutes per game off the bench. His reserve role has seen a level of importance on the defensive end considering what he has provided with his frame as a 6’7 wing.

Middleton, a former four-star, was the third-highest rated recruit for the Buckeyes coming into this season behind Taison Chatman and Devin Royal. He has been the most impactful rookie for the program so far, though, in regards to opportunity and statistics.

Ohio State could have used Middleton in what was a fourth straight loss and seventh in their last eight in the Big Ten. Still, based on Holtmann’s assessment, he may possibly be a go at some point this week at home against Indiana on Tuesday or Maryland on Saturday

The Buckeyes (13-9, 3-8) will host Indiana on Tuesday and then Maryland on Saturday.

Chris Holtmann met with the media on Monday to answer questions about where Ohio State’s at during its Big Ten tumble.

Lettermen Row had a rundown of what he said.

– Holtmann was asked about these two home games and the importance of them. “If you can increase how long you’re playing well? You’re going to give yourself a chance,” Holtmann said of the Buckeyes’ recent signs of growth. He emphasized, though, that both Indiana and Maryland are capable teams.

– Holtmann said Scotty Middleton is day-to-day with a foot injury. He injured his foot in practice leading up to the Iowa game.

– Holtmann said on his radio show that — in addition to Middleton — there were some guys who were banged up during practice. He was asked in his presser if that’s a concern for Tuesday’s game against Indiana. “I think we’ll be alright,” Holtmann said. “I don’t think it’s anything significant. We’ve got another practice today. But I don’t think it’s anything significant to hold a guy out right now.”
