CJ Stroud says Marvin Harrison Jr. 'does things in different ways'
Even with injuries to some top players in the wide receiver room, CJ Stroud and the Buckeye passing game has gotten plenty of contributions from the wideouts. One pass catcher in particular who’s emerged is Marvin Harrison Jr. The true sophomore is second on the team in receiving yards with over 500 and is looking like the next future superstar at wide receiver for Ohio State.
Part of Harrison’s advantage on the outside is his ability to catch and any every ball thrown his way by QB CJ Stroud. According to Stroud, the younger Harrison is a reliable option, even when covered, since he is such a playmaker on the ball. But so are all of the Buckeye wideouts, per Stroud.
“Yeah, they do a great job winning the one-on-ones and things like that. And Marvin definitely knows his body well and knows how to torque it, or does things in different ways to make sure that he catches the ball and stays inbounds. So it’s pretty cool to see and have receivers like that,” Stroud shared at a press conference this week.
With last year’s leading receiver, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, returning from injury, there’s now questions about whether he’ll take snaps and targets away from new guys who have emerged this year — such as, most notably, Harrison.

However, Stroud doesn’t think such drama will poison the offense. He thinks Smith-Njigba and all of the other receivers will understand the situation and agree to play for team rather than individual goals.

“We all have a job and even Jaxon understands that. I mean, I have a job to do, to read the defense the right way and not force things. And Julian [Fleming], Marvin [Harrison], [Xavier Johnson], Emeka [Egbuka], I mean everybody’s really unselfish. Which is I think what separates that room from a lot of other rooms. Is they all want to see each other eat. So yeah, I don’t think it’ll be an issue.”
So blending the new stars with a returner of Smith-Njigba’s prestige won’t be an issue, CJ Stroud assures everyone. After all, his addition should only mean even more lethal targets in the passing game for Stroud.
