CJ Stroud shares takeaways from Northwestern film
Ohio State barely escaped the apocalyptic whirlwind in Evanston last Saturday. The Buckeyes handed Northwestern a 21-7 loss in a game everyone involved would love to forget. Unfortunately, OSU quarterback CJ Stroud wasn’t through with the Northwestern game until later this week, when he flipped on the film to see where he could improve.
In a monsoon like the two teams faced last Saturday, it’s hard to judge your play too much. However, Stroud still said he saw plenty of areas for improvement throughout the tape, regardless of the weather.
“No I watched it a couple times. Just seen some of the things I could have been better at maybe, if that was just body position or if I closed myself off throwing, or whatever the case may be. And then, a couple times, we’re just running the ball, seeing where I can be more aggressive, where I could use my body a little more and learn from that as well.”
Perhaps Stroud saw some spots where he should’ve used his legs rather than passing the ball through a downpour. And while he didn’t want to let the weather be an excuse for any mistakes, Stroud did admit he knew it was a factor going in, but tried not to let it bother him too much.

“I just tried to figure out, ‘OK, if this happens like this, what do we do?’ I didn’t have a lot of answers. There wasn’t a lot going on in those games [offensively]. … It’s a real thing, but at the same we tell our guys, ‘We’ve got to go win the game. We’ve just got to play.’ If you make it a bigger thing it becomes more of a distraction.”
Weather like that would be distracting for any football player, especially the quarterback. For Ohio State, getting out of that place with another tally in the win column was the only goal. And they did just that behind the steady arm of CJ Stroud.
