It was only one game but there are already some worrying about the current state of Ohio State‘s quarterback group. Count former SEC head coach and current ESPN analyst Dan Mullen among the group doubting Ohio State’s prowess at signal caller.

After an underwhelming performance from Kyle McCord and only a small appearance from Devin Brown, Mullen said Monday night on College Football Countdown ahead of the Clemson at Duke game that he thinks the Buckeyes have a quarterback problem.

“I think they do,” Mullen said. “They have the best group of wide receivers in the nation. And they didn’t get the ball on Saturday. They struggled to do it. Their tight end was their leading receiver. Kyle McCord has got to find a way to be a better distributor of the football to all the playmakers. All they got to do is find a way to distribute it. Get the ball in their hands. And they weren’t able to do that against Indiana on Saturday.”

McCord, who was named the starting quarterback early in the week, went 20 of 33 for 239 yards with one interception in Ohio State’s 23-3 victory over Indiana.

Brown went 1-for-3 in his limited reps, which head coach Ryan Day admitted was less than he hoped for heading into the game.

Few, if any, teams have had fewer questions about quarterback talent than Ryan Day’s club in recent years. The Ohio State starting quarterback has won the Graham–George Offensive Player of the Year as the Big Ten’s best offensive player each of the past five seasons. The Griese–Brees Quarterback of the Year for the conference’s top quarterback was first awarded in 2011. In only two of those seasons was the award won by someone who was not a Ohio State player.

While Mullen thinks Ohio State has some things to figure out at quarterback, he believes Alabama has nothing to worry about with its starter Jalen Milroe.

When asked about whether the Crimson Tide had their next great quarterback, Mullen said yes.

“Yes they have,” Mullen said. “Jalen Milroe came out and his ability to run the ball, his ability to beat you with his legs and if you do that, he is going to get such advantageous looks in the pass game. He showed he has the arm to make the throws down the field. I think we are going to see a little bit different, old school Nick Saban offense, running the ball between the tackles, physical football, playing defense and I think they have their quarterback for this year.”
