Many months are between where we stand currently and the beginning of the 2024 college football season, but FanDuel Sportsbook is looking ahead.

Odds have been updated for many of the seasons top clashes, including two for the Ohio State Buckeyes, who will be looking to return to the College Football Playoff under it’s new structure when the time comes.

First, Ohio State’s clash with freshly-minted Big Ten foe Oregon will take place on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene. According to FanDuel, the Buckeyes are actually the underdog against the Ducks, as Oregon is favored by 1.5-points for the matchup.

Then, of course we have the biggest date on Ohio State’s schedule each season in The Game against Michigan. The Buckeyes desperately need a win in the rivalry, or questions could start surrounding Day’s future.

With the future of Jim Harbaugh in limbo, FanDuel has the Buckeyes favored by six over the Wolverines, a result that Columbus would take in a heartbeat.

Alas, Ohio State has some other fascinating showdowns on their schedule in 2024, like a highly-anticipated clash with the Penn State Nittany Lions. It’ll be interesting to see what FanDuel thinks of the rest of their campaign, but this is all we’re getting so far.

Moreover, the last three seasons have been a rough go for Ryan Day in a lot of ways. And that’s hard to believe when one considers Ryan Day’s Ohio State teams have lost just six games and won double digit contests each year.

But with losses to Michigan ending the regular season all three of those years — twice dashing any realistic College Football Playoff hopes — things can get tense in Columbus. Fortunately for Day, though, the 12-team playoff format could help him circumnavigate his maize and blue roadblock.

“I think the new playoff system really helps Ryan Day,” On3’s Andy Staples said on Tuesday, when discussing the matter with former LSU offensive lineman and current CFB analyst T-Bob Herbert. “Because it puts them in that mix every year. Like you don’t have to beat Michigan, though Ryan Day will deal local problems if he can’t beat Michigan. But nationally, you’re in the mix.

“And if you’re in those games, you can win a few. And you’re always going to have the talent to go on a run at Ohio State. Like you will always have enough talent that if you get in to the playoff, you can win the playoff.”

Herbert concurred with Staples and wondered if the narrow blinders of the four-team CFP unfairly altered the perspective on Day and his run so far. Through six years, Ohio State is 56-8 under him.

Perhaps Ohio State will get back to the level they expect to play at with Ryan Day in 2024. They have a fascinating schedule, but they’ll be favored in most of their games when the time comes.
