Ohio State has made their way into the top-three over the month of October. To Greg McElroy, though, the Buckeyes are already there and are a spot higher than that when examining the sport’s best resumes at this moment.

During ‘Always College Football’ this week, McElroy put Ohio State at No. 2 based on what has been done up to this point. Their wins over Notre Dame, Penn State, Maryland, and WKU weren’t enough to surpass Florida State but did put them ahead of Oklahoma, Georgia, Washington, and Michigan.

“The second-best resume in college football is the Ohio State Buckeyes,” McElroy stated.

“They have two great wins. In week four, going on the road to 6-2 Notre Dame and winning the game 17-14. Then, week eight, most recently against 6-1, current ranked No. 10 Penn State. That was a more convincing score than the final score might indicate. I thought it was a dominant performance in every stretch of the imagination,” said McElroy. “So, two great wins for Ohio State but they also have two good wins at their disposal as well. 5-2 Maryland – a great second half performance to beat them convincingly by 20 points. And then they also beat 4-3 Western Kentucky.”

This was just an examination of what these teams have done so far this fall. However, McElroy did note that Ohio State still has several other opportunities over their final fives games to add on to what he already considers as a quality record.

“They also have a couple of notables left too – on the road at Wisconsin this week, at Rutgers. And, of course, at Michigan in the final week of the regular season,” said McElroy.

Ohio State, by some standards, started this season a little slower than other teams. Still, since their win at the buzzer in South Bend, they’ve been the team that we’ve come to expect. After being outside the top-five, that win over the Fighting Irish put them back in. Victories over the Terrapins and Nittany Lions only solidified their spot.

How many view the Buckeye’s season in the end will come down to what they do or don’t accomplish in Ann Arbor at the end of next month. Still, based on their resume at the end of October, McElroy has Ohio State right near the top as the calendar turns to November.

“The second-best resume belongs to the Buckeyes,” said McElroy.
