Ohio State defensive tackle Haskell Garrett will play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl, he posted via Twitter. Garrett suffered a shoulder injury during Thursday’s practice while participating in a one-on-one drill with Michigan offensive tackle Andrew Stueber.

Stueber took Garrett to the ground at the end of the play and landed on his shoulder. Trainers immediately came over to the former Ohio State defensive lineman and helped him off the field a few minutes later.

“Homie just mad I have the gold pants he’s missing,” Garrett wrote. “Ain’t nun but some icy hot and a massage won’t fix.”

Kickoff for the Senior Bowl is set for 2:30 p.m. ET Saturday at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Alabama. The game will be televised on NFL Network.

Garrett set career highs across the board this past season with 22 tackles (seven for loss), 5.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries. The 6-foot-1, 298-pound defensive tackle took one of those recoveries for a touchdown against Minnesota.

Two of Garrett’s teammates were also invited to the Senior Bowl in tight end Jeremy Ruckert and defensive lineman Tyreke Smith. Ruckert was not participating in drills Thursday, putting his status for Saturday’s game in doubt.

Garrett has an inspirational story beyond the football field. He survived gunshot wounds in late August of 2020 after he was trying to break up a fight. During the 2020-2021 season, he went on to earn first team All-American honors.

Coming out of high school, Garrett was a top 50 overall prospect for the powerhouse program of Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nevada). He was also named a U.S. Army All-American.

Pro Football Network projects him as an “early third-day pick,” which would likely put him in the fourth or fifth round. Haskell Garrett has an opportunity to improve that stock Saturday in the Senior Bowl.

Ohio State finished this past season with a record of 11-2. The Buckeyes lost the Big Ten Championship to Michigan, but went on to defeat Utah in the Rose Bowl to close the year. Garrett was one of several Ohio State players to opt out of the bowl game.
