JD PicKell: Marvin Harrison Jr will be next star receiver at Ohio State
Can Marvin Harrison Jr. become the next in a long line of tremendous Ohio State wide receivers? J.D. PicKell of On3 certainly believes so.
Last season, Harrison Jr. only scratched the surface of how great he can be. While evaluating which athletes are breakout candidates for 2022, none other than the Buckeyes wide receiver topped PicKell’s list.
“He popped in the Rose Bowl a year ago, had three touchdowns when Garrett Wilson wasn’t playing. Chris Olave wasn’t playing. Quite frankly folks, he’s up next in the Ohio State wide receiver room,” stated PicKell. “He’s going to benefit from Jaxon Smith-Njigba — a lot of people’s No. 1 wide receiver in the country this upcoming year in 2022. He’s going to benefit from all the double teams that he’s drawing. So for Marvin Harrison Jr. — a big body in this wide open Ohio State offense, and a more mature C.J. Stroud — expect him to put up big numbers.
“He is going to be extremely productive and going to be a weapon all fall long. Marvin Harrison Jr. — also if that name sounds familiar, Marvin Harrison caught a few touchdowns from Peyton Manning back in the day. More than a few.”
Ohio State knows a thing or two about phenomenal receiving talent, and Marvin Harrison Jr. has the tools to be next. The sky is the limit for Harrison Jr. next season and beyond, and the blueprint is there.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba on Marvin Harrison Jr: ‘We’re just willing to accept the challenge and we’re ready for it’
Moreover, the aforementioned Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson combined for 1,994 yards and 25 touchdowns last season, which is quite a bit of production to replace. But Jaxon Smith-Njigba said as the Buckeyes try to fill those voids, he and Marvin Harrison Jr. are going to differentiate themselves from their former teammates.
“I feel like we’re going to bring a different style than Chris and Garrett,” Smith-Njigba said. “Those are two unique players that are really good and I feel like Marvin and I are really unique, too. We’re just willing to accept the challenge and we’re ready for it. It’s going to be fun.”
Ohio State came in as the favorite in the Big Ten preseason poll ahead of Big Ten Media Days and quarterback C.J. Stroud is seen as a potential Heisman Trophy candidate. He finished fourth in the voting last year, but could set his sights on another trip to New York for the ceremony as expectations rise in Columbus with his incredibly talented receiving corps.
