Jeremiah Smith doubles down on boasts about Ohio State offense following Rose Bowl win
Ohio State freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is one of the best prospects the game has seen in quite some time. The uber-talented wideout played like it on Wednesday night in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, allowing the Buckeyes to jump all over the Oregon Ducks in their College Football Playoff Quarterfinal matchup. And they didn’t look back, coasting to a 41-21 Rose Bowl victory. Smith was dominant, hauling in seven catches for 187 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
He was named the Rose Bowl offensive MVP following the game. And the 187 receiving yards set the school receiving yardage record for a single game. Cris Carter set the previous record in 1985, which also happened in the Rose Bowl. Not only that, Smith also shattered the Big Ten record for the most receiving touchdowns by a true freshman.
He was certainly talking a big game leading up to his first Rose Bowl, but the freshman phenom backed it up and then some, fueling the Buckeyes’ dominant win.
Following the game, Smith spoke with ESPN’s Holly Rowe about his masterful performance. What did it feel like to talk the talk leading up to the game and back it up on the field? “I mean, you talk it, you gotta be about it. I just feel like nobody can guard us out here. We’re one of the best teams in the country and I stand on that,” Smith noted.

How is he enjoying the moment at the Rose Bowl? One of the more magical settings in college football. “I’m enjoying the moment. It’s my first time at the Rose Bowl. You hear all about the historical moments here. And I’m just happy to be a part of it,” Smith explained.
