The MichiganOhio State rivalry runs deep. Neither really calls the other by the proper name, with Ohio State using “That Team Up North” and Michigan calling the Buckeyes “Ohio.” The most petty move of them all may be Ohio State refusing to even use the letter M on social media.

Unfortunately, the move backfired on Tuesday when discussing defensive coordinator Jim Knowles and being a semifinalist for the Broyles Award. Putting the traditional red X in the word “semifinalist” led to a hilarious moment and one social media had a field day with.

While Knowles is more than qualified to be in this position from the Broyles Award — given out to the top assistant coach in college football — the mistake provided a few laughs. Even the graphic Ohio State attached is not doing them any favors.

You can check out the full tweet from Ohio State Football here.

If you click on the tweet, all of the replies are making fun of Ohio State for the mess-up. It’s just another hilarious addition to what should be an incredible week leading up to The Game. At a time when the stakes are at an all-time high, it’s good to be able to laugh at a mistake.

If nothing else, Ohio State is consistent about crossing out the Ms. Even in their own head coach’s name, you can see it crossed off. However, there is nothing they are able to do when tagging Knowles on Twitter, leaving something out there for Michigan fans to potentially comment on.

Jim Knowles more than worthy of being Broyles Award semifinalist

Funny social media moment or not, Knowles is more than worthy of being considered to win the Broyles Award at this point of the season. The Ohio State defense has been great through 11 games and should have at least two more to show out. Everything will begin on Saturday afternoon at the Big House against Michigan.

From a scoring defensive perspective, Ohio State ranks No. 2 in the country at 9.3 points per game given up. Maryland has the highest point total against the Buckeyes this season, scoring 17 during their Oct. 7 matchup in Columbus.

Opponents are gaining just over 250 yards per game as well. Just dominating on every level at the moment, you have to assume Knowles has a good chance of winding up a finalist.
