Josh Simmons injury update: Ryan Day gives unfortunate initial prognosis on Ohio State lineman
Ohio State offensive tackle Josh Simmons likely suffered a season-ending injury in Saturday’s loss to Oregon, coach Ryan Day revealed postgame. Simmons went down in the first half against the Ducks and did not return to the game.
He had started every game at left tackle so far this season. The Buckeyes will have a bye next week to figure out a replacement for Simmons before facing Nebraska in Week 9.
Zen Michalski came in the game after Simmons went down with injury. Based on that knowledge, he would be the favorite to move into the starting lineup.
The injury to Josh Simmons will leave a big hole on the offensive line, as he is the Buckeyes top grades pass blocker according to Pro Football Focus. Ohio State still did a solid job protecting the quarterback on Saturday as it allowed only one sack.
Ohio State will look to rebound from the loss against Oregon when it returns home to face Nebraska on Oct. 26. We’ll hopefully have a better idea of what they plan to do in light of the injury to Simmons ahead of that game.

Ohio State final falls short on final drive vs. Oregon
Oregon drove down to kick the go-ahead field goal with 1:47 remaining in the game, which was still plenty of time for Ohio State to answer. The Buckeyes nearly did too, driving down to the Ducks 28-yard line to get in field goal range.
However, Ohio State would go backwards 20 yards due to a pair of penalties to put them out of range again. With six seconds left on the clock, the Oregon defense gave quarterback Will Howard no open targets. He panicked and scrambled forward, running out the clock to give the Ducks the win 32-31.
Howard finished the game 28-of-35 passing for 326 yards and two touchdowns. However, his play at the end of the game will loom large in the loss.
