On3 5-Star Countdown: No. 5, Ohio State QB transfer commit Julian Sayin
On3 has released its final recruiting ranking for the 2024 class after the completion of the high school football season and all-star competitions. Carlsbad (Calif.) Five-Star Plus+ quarterback, former Alabama signee and current Ohio State Transfer Portal commit Julian Sayin is the No. 5 overall prospect in the 2024 On300.
The latest edition of On3’s 2024 rankings features 32 five-star players, up from 21 in the penultimate update in November. Of those 32 prospects, 29 are signed to college programs, with three still yet to make their decisions official.
This final update comes after the end of the high school playoffs and postseason All-American games, where top prospects across the country faced off in a week of practices and ended with nationally televised games.
The 6-foot-1.5, 190-pound Sayin committed to Alabama on Nov. 2, 2022 and remained pledged to the Crimson Tide until he signed this past December. Then came the retirement of legendary Bama skipper Nick Saban. On Jan. 19, Sayin announced his plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.
It didn’t take long for the signal-caller to find a new home, as Sayin committed to Ohio State on Jan. 21, giving the Buckeyes two elite QBs in the 2024 cycle, alongside four-star signee Air Noland.

“Sayin has already a preexisting relationship with new Ohio State offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien. The longtime NFL head coach and offensive coordinator’s most recent stop at the college level was at Alabama, where he helped recruit Sayin for some time,” On3’s Pete Nakos wrote. “Despite O’Brien leaving the Tide for the 2023 season to head back to the New England Patriots, there is familiarity between the offensive coordinator and quarterback.”
Julian Sayin Scouting Summary
On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power writes this about him as a prospect:
“The most refined and accurate passer in the 2024 cycle. Measured in at over 6-foot-1, 195 pounds with a 9.25-inch hand prior to his senior season. Touts one of the quickest releases in the cycle with a tight, compact throwing motion. Has outstanding overall mechanics. Consistently throws in rhythm, marrying his eyes, upper body and feet. Generates good zip on short and intermediate passes. The ball gets out quick. Layers his passes with ease, delivering with advanced touch. Hits receivers in stride. A good deep ball thrower. Comfortable passer on the run with the ability to deliver from off-platform. Navigates the pocket with ease and with intention. Plays on his toes and has quick, reactive feet. A surgical passer on Friday nights. Decisive passer who reads the field quickly and efficiently.
…Turned in an efficient junior season, completing 66.5% of his passes for 2,708 yards (11.1 yards per attempt) and 27 touchdowns against 4 interceptions. Also rushed for 154 yards and three scores. A standout in neutral settings, as he was named the On3 MVP at the Elite 11 Finals and OT7 Finals prior to his senior season. Does not possess the eye-popping physical traits of some of his highly-touted peers. Can continue building on his improvisational skills and overall creativity as he often wins from within structure. Considered a very safe quarterback prospect with a high floor at the next level.”
