Former Ohio State star quarterback Justin Fields is returning to Columbus to serve as the guest picker for ESPN College GameDay ahead of the Buckeyes’ game against Indiana on Saturday.

Fields will join Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Pat McAfee and company ahead of the huge Big Ten showdown, ESPN College GameDay announced on Friday.

Fields played at Ohio State in 2019 and 2020 after transferring from Georgia. He was named the MVP of the Big Ten in 2020 as he led the Buckeyes to the national championship game.

The Steelers played Thursday night against the Browns, giving Fields the weekend off to come back to Ohio State and take in the huge Big Ten game.

Fields was drafted by the Chicago Bears with the No. 11 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. He had mixed results in Chicago before being traded to the Steelers ahead of the 2024 season.

Fields was initially serving as the starting quarterback in Pittsburgh. However, after Russell Wilson got healthy, he moved into a role off the bench. He has been coming in situationally for the Steelers as of late.

Saturday’s game is huge for Ohio State as the Buckeyes look to lock in a spot in the Big Ten Championship game and a College Football Playoff berth. The Hoosiers will be a tough out, though.

Indiana has been the surprise of the Big Ten and the entire college football world in 2024. Curt Cignetti’s club enters the Ohio State game with a 10-0 record. With that said, Saturday’s game will be by far the toughest for Indiana so far this year. Despite that, Cignetti recently defended the Hoosiers’ schedule.

“You know these schedules are set years in advance. And I mean, Alabama played Mercer, Georgia played Chattanooga, right? Vanderbilt played Georgia State but lost,” Cignetti said on The Triple Option podcast. “I mean, the schedule is what it is, and the fact of the matter is we’ve beaten seven P4 teams. … We also beat the defending national champ (Michigan) and runner up (Washington).

“And, for the most part, except for the Michigan game, which we didn’t play very well in the second half, every game has been a decisive victory. We didn’t trail until two weeks ago. We were behind at Michigan State 10-0 in the first quarter and then rattled off 47 straight. You know?”
