Kirk Herbstreit: 'Zero' panic for Ohio State after Week 1

Kirk Herbstreit is far from panicked regarding Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes after Week 1.

Many sold their stock in the team following the performance of quarterbacks Kyle McCord and Devin Brown against the Indiana Hoosiers. However, Herbstreit isn’t one of those doubters, and the ESPN College GameDay analyst believes Ohio State will be just fine.

“I’m over here,” Herbstreit said, moving the needle to zero percent. “Based on the one game. They (Ohio State fans) think Kyle McCord’s terrible, because he didn’t hit some open receivers. Chill out.

“They thought CJ Stroud was terrible, because he lost to Oregon. That’s just the lunatic fringe there. They’re out of their mind.”

Alas, Week 2 can go a long way towards easing some of the more outspoken doubters of Ohio State. The Buckeyes have a game against Youngstown State in which they’re 44.5-point favorites. If they cover in grand fashion, all will be forgiven.

Time will tell if Kirk Herbstreit is right about his lack of panic, but until Buckeyes fans see it on the field from their quarterbacks, the uneasiness will remain.

Urban Meyer sends message to fans doubting Ryan Day, Ohio State

Alas, we’re willing to bet Urban Meyer agrees with Kirk Herbstreit, after the former Buckeyes leader sent a message to any fans who doubt Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes after Week 1.

The Buckeyes defeated the Indiana Hoosiers by a score of 23-3 last week, but many came away unimpressed with Ohio State’s offensive performance. Joining Tim May for Urban’s Take, Meyer decided to make his feelings known on the job Day’s currently doing at Ohio State.

“Once again, you don’t want to disrespect fans. They’re the ones that buy the tickets. They’re the ones that watch Big Noon Kickoff. God bless them. This is the United States of America. You’ve got an opinion, that’s your opinion. But for someone to say, you know, I would handle things differently than Ryan Day, you know, come on. I mean, name one human being on this planet that has more experience and is better at managing quarterbacks than Ryan Day. I can’t, and I’ve been around the game my entire life. I can’t name one. He’s as good as there is,” explained Meyer. “So, in Ryan we trust. You’re fine. It’s a new quarterback. Was a little clunky, yeah. But okay, they won by three scores. Let’s have a really good Tuesday, Wednesday practice, fix it and move on.

“So once again, what do I have to say about the doubters? All good, you know. Give your opinion, but if you can name one person that walks the planet that’s more qualified to do what they’re doing than Ryan Day … and that stuff, I’d like to shake that person’s hand. Because I’ve got news, that person does not exist.”

Alas, it’s evident Meyer is preaching patience with Day and the Buckeyes, believing Ohio State will be just fine.
