One of the most stunning developments of the 2024-2025 College Football Playoffs happened on Wednesday evening, as the Ohio State Buckeyes were mercilessly whipping the Oregon Ducks. The Ducks are the top-ranked seed in this year’s version of the CFP and the Buckeyes have come out and embarrassed them early. LeBron James is a big Ohio State fan and is known to watch a lot of the games over the years.

He took to Twitter to react to the whipping. At halftime, OSU held a commanding 34-0 advantage.

Oregon came out in the second half with a vengeance, cutting the OSU lead to 34-15 with 7:15 left in the third quarter. But the game was out of hand, early, and it was too little, too late. Ohio State won in blowout fashion, 41-21. The Buckeyes truly did get the belt out on Wednesday night and it wasn’t a pretty sight for Oregon fans.

The Ohio State passing attack came out and torched the Ducks’ secondary early, with Will Howard throwing two touchdown passes to freshman superstar wideout Jeremiah Smith. Then Howard connected with Emeka Egbuka for a touchdown, too. Smith’s masterful performance had many different people across the country buzzing about his jaw-dropping NFL potential.

He finished with seven catches for 187 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The 187 receiving yards in a single game are a record for the Buckeye football program. Cris Carter had the old record (172 receiving yards). That one was also set at the Rose Bowl.

The Buckeyes dominated the Ducks in every way, shape, and fashion on Wednesday, outgaining them 500 total yards of offense to 276 total yards.

Ohio State and Texas will face off in the College Football Playoff Semifinals on January 10th. That one will be the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic and kick is set for 7:30 PM EST. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN.
