A team was going to win a national championship unlike ever before in this new 12-team College Football Playoff. As many as four postseason wins would be required to hoist the trophy. Ohio State wound up doing so, winning every game by double digits along the way.

There has been discussion about whether or not Ohio State’s postseason is the greatest run in college football history. FOX’s Mark Ingram gave his answer, one Buckeye fans will be quite happy with. For him, it’s not just winning four games but in the matter of which Ohio State did so.

“When you talk about the path they had and now they made those teams look pedestrian, it definitely is,” Ingram said. “… It was very impressive run for them to win the national championship and they did it by dominating everyone.”

From a point difference standpoint, Notre Dame was the one who played Ohio State the closest at 34-23. Even then, Ryan Day‘s team felt like they were in control for the entire first half and most of the third quarter. A ferocious comeback from Notre Dame did make the national title game interesting but ultimately, they fell short in the final moments.

Texas would like a word in this conversation, being at the goal line down seven with an attempt to tie the game before senior Jack Sawyer produced one of the program’s most famous plays.

The talent to dominate teams was always there, widely being considered the best roster in college football. Some adversity presented itself to Ohio State throughout the regular season — mainly the loss to Michigan. Ingram praised the Buckeyes for finding a way to respond each time and continue to push forward.

“We knew this team was the most talented roster in all of college football,” Ingram said. “Yes, they had their adversity they had to overcome but what do great teams do? They learn from mistakes, they learn from losses. What this team did is get better every single time where they had a setback.

“Every single time they had a loss, every single time they had a tough point in the season, they got better from it. The best thing that could have happened to this Ohio State team is the loss to Michigan.”
