Maurice Clarett makes bold prediction about TreVeyon Henderson
Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson earned some praise from Buckeye great Maurice Clarett on Saturday. Henderson had three total touchdowns — two rushing and one receiving — against Indiana on Saturday.
Henderson already set the single-game record for rushing yards from a freshman, with 277 against Tulsa. Now Clarett, who ranks second in Buckeye history in single-season rushing yards, believes he is one his way to setting another.
“Yeah…he’s going to pass my record,” Clarett wrote in a tweet. “Much success to the youngster!”
Clarett held the freshman record until 2017, when JK Dobbins finished with 1,403 yards. Henderson has so far rushed for 693 yards through seven games with the Buckeyes.
Henderson, the No. 20 overall player in On3’s class of 2021 rankings, came to Columbus highly recruited. He chose Ohio State over offers from Alabama, Oklahoma, Michigan and many others.
Henderson scored all three of his touchdowns against Indiana in the first half. The Buckeyes wasted no time jumping out to a sizeable lead, and held a 44-7 advantage by halftime. They went on to win in dominant fashion, 54-7. Quarterback CJ Stroud ended the game with four touchdowns.

The Buckeyes have been on a roll after falling to Oregon in Week 2. Since that loss, Ohio State has an average margin of victory of 41.6 points. Henderson has been a huge part of that, and figures to continue to be as the Buckeyes look to fight their way back into the College Football Playoff conversation.
But the schedule still has a lot of challenges left, particularly at the end of the season. Ohio State faces No. 7 Penn State next Saturday, and ends the year with back-to-back games against top 10 teams in Michigan and Michigan State.
Both Maurice Clarett and Dobbins went on to be selected in the NFL draft, and it appears TreVeyon Henderson could be next. But he has at least two more seasons after this one in a Buckeye uniform, something fans in Columbus will certainly be pleased about.
