Saturday, Ryan Day and Ohio State suffered their third straight loss to Michigan. That hasn’t happened since 1995-97 under John Cooper, and it was worth wondering what the response would be if the Buckeyes lost another game to their rival Wolverines.

After Michigan finished off the 30-24 victory, former Ohio State standout Maurice Clarett took to social media and called for his alma mater to move on from Day.

“Ryan Day…. Love you bro but gotta go,” Clarett wrote on X. “This is why you’re paid millions. Cant get paid 9’ms and lose 3 straight.”

Day now has a 56-7 overall record at Ohio State after taking over the program in 2019. However, three of those losses have now come to Michigan, and Saturday’s came as the Wolverines were without Jim Harbaugh due to suspension.

Michigan had a 14-10 lead at halftime as both defenses held strong through the first two quarters. In the second half, though, Ohio State made things interesting when TreVeyon Henderson found the end zone to tie things up at 17-17 in the third quarter. But Blake Corum ran in his second touchdown of the day to put the Wolverines back on top 24-17, and James Turner’s fourth-quarter field goal made it a two-score game.

Marvin Harrison Jr. found the end zone after that to make it a 27-24 Michigan lead with 8:05 to play, and Ohio State got the ball with 1:05 left to try and march down the field. A Kyle McCord interception sealed it. Michigan got its third straight victory over Ohio State, accomplishing that feat for the first time since the 1990s.

Now, the question is what’s next for Day and the Buckeyes. The College Football Playoff looks out of reach now after one loss, depending on what else happens around the game. There are also some rumors swirling around Day now that the regular season is in the books.

On FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff on Saturday, Bruce Feldman reported Day is a name to watch for the opening at Texas A&M after the Aggies fired Jimbo Fisher earlier this month. While Texas A&M looking at a list of candidates, Feldman said the school could at least look into Day as a replacement for Fisher.

“But don’t be surprised if the Aggies don’t pursue Ryan Day,” Feldman said. “Now, as you know, Day is 56-6 as a head coach, and he came within a field goal in the last seconds of knocking off Georgia in the CFP. But keep in mind, the specter of back-to-back losses to the hated arch rival Michigan hangs heavy over Columbus.

“Now, if they win here today, and beat the Wolverines — I seriously doubt with them in the playoff mix, that he would be taking that call. The Aggies, I think, are optimistic that if they don’t win that game, that he might be open to their pitch.”
