Joel Klatt: Ohio State now has the best resume in college football
Ohio State has the best resume in college football, according to Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt. The win over Big Ten foe Penn State cinched that notion over the weekend.
The Buckeyes’ didn’t explode offensively, but the defense was tough, and we mean really tough. Basically, Ohio State proved they could win ruggedly, again, after a win over Notre Dame earlier this season.
Klatt broke it down on the latest edition of his podcast.
“Obviously they’ve got to feel great about this,” Klatt said. “They’ve got what now is the best resume in the country. A couple of top 10 wins, one on the road over Notre Dame, now against Penn State. Those are two really good football teams.
“Penn State is still a really good football team, folks. There’s no doubt about this in my mind. And the thing that I think that they feel so good about the Buckeyes is that they won both of those games in a manner in which people were questioning whether they could do it or not, which are two slugfest low scoring, defensive oriented, run game oriented, toughness oriented.”
Klatt reminded the good folks that Ryan Day wanted to make it “Ohio State against the world.” The head coach questioned anyone who would say the Buckeyes weren’t tough.
“That was the narrative coming in Ohio against the world, right,” Klatt said. “I mean, Ryan Day, he told us earlier in the year, and they won both of those games. It’s not going to shock me if they’re able to take care of business against Wisconsin next week, and it won’t shock me if they’re No. 1 in the first CFP rankings with the resume that they have. Got to be feeling great about that.”

Ohio State is behind Michigan in the Big Ten and the current AP and Coaches Polls. But Klatt makes a good point regarding the College Football Playoff.
With those types of wins, it does look better than Michigan’s 8-0 record based on the Wolverines’ opponents.
“Ohio State’s not for everybody,” Day said on The Pat McAfee Show. “It’s just not. Everything about Ohio State is passionate. People love Ohio State. When they put the block O on their chest, when they put the block O on their hat, that’s their identity. That’s who they are. I’ve been here now seven years.
“My youngest daughter doesn’t know anywhere else. When you first come, you’re learning a little bit about it. Then before you know it, that’s who you are as a person. So you take those things personal. But everything here matters, no matter what you do.”
