Ohio State linebacker Steele Chambers is getting his ducks in a row with the 2022 season rapidly approaching. The Buckeyes’ Twitter account posted a video of the redshirt junior riding a lawn mower around his yard, captioned, “the offseason.”

Things are about to get very busy for Chambers and the Buckeyes. There won’t be a whole lot of time for mowing the lawn or chasing around his dog, a blue-eyed Husky named Maverick, come August.

Chambers, a former running back for the Ohio State offense, switched to defense and is now contributing as a linebacker for the defense.

In 2021, Chambers had 42 tackles, five tackles for loss and an interception in his first season playing defense. The 6-foot-1, 232-pound athlete received praise from Ryan Day during the spring for his growth.

“I thought what Steele did last year was significant – not being able to have a whole year under his belt playing the position and now he’s got a whole spring with Jim coaching linebackers,” Day said.

“Obviously, he’s grown. He was playing running back at this time last year, so he’s much further along than he was at this point last year – but that group has more experience than it’s had, and we have some good young guys who are stepping there, as well.”

Steele Chambers began working at linebacker last summer after a hiatus dating back to his high school days. The 2019 signee shared how he went from being “pissed off,” to finally “getting the hang of it.”

“There were a bunch of times throughout the summer, definitely, where I was just pissed off being out here,” Chambers said. “Just learning a new defense, feeling like I was behind everyone. But then probably after game four or five, I started really getting the hang of it. And then I was just having fun.”
