Ohio State defensive back Lathan Ransom provides update following surgery

Ohio State safety Lathan Ransom suffered what looked like a serious leg injury on a kickoff return in the Rose Bowl against Utah. He hit his leg on his teammate, and he was carted off the field in an air cast. The sophomore went to the hospital for x-rays and, subsequently, had surgery on his leg.

Ransom shared an update on his surgery on Monday.

“Surgery went great,” Ransom wrote. I just wanted to thank Buckeye Nation, my coaches and teammates for all the positive messages and prayers. Can’t wait to get back to work! #GoBucks.”

Ransom has 38 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble this year. He finished seventh on the Ohio State defense in tackles.

He was a four-star recruit out of Arizona and a top-150 prospect according to the On3 Consensus. Ransom played some as a freshman last year but broke out in 2021. In the 2020 season, he tallied five tackles for the buckeyes.

Ohio State running back makes call on NFL future

The Ohio State Buckeyes will miss one of their veteran offensive leaders next season. Junior running back Master Teague has elected to forgo his senior season and declared for the NFL draft. Teague made the announcement via his personal Twitter with a letter and voice message.

Teague was the Buckeyes starter last season after taking over for J.K Dobbins who left for the NFL draft. It was a COVID-shortened season in 2020, but Teague still rushed for 514 yards on 104 carries. He finished that season averaging 4.9 yards per carry with eight touchdowns.

However, in the 2021 season, Teague found himself falling out of the Ohio State offensive game plan. He had 355 rushing yards on 67 carries with four scores.

In a high-powered offense predicated on an aerial assault and CJ Stroud, the junior running back could only sit back as his carries per game diminished. Freshman running backs Trevyon Henderson and Miyan Williams also broke out in 2021, which contributed to the lack of big numbers this season from Teague.
