Ohio State defensive lineman Hero Kanu officially entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Friday evening, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. He just finished his junior season with the Buckeyes, where he tallied four tackles across 123 defensive snaps.

He redshirted as a true freshman in 2022, although he did appear in three games. In 2023, Kanu tallied 10 tackles, and a sack, across 11 games. He played his high school football with Santa Margarita Catholic (Rancho Santa Margarita, California). There, he was tabbed as a four-star prospect and the No. 121 overall player in the country, according to the On3 Industry Rankings for the 2022 cycle.

As a senior in high school, he tallied 55 tackles, nine sacks, and 19 tackles for loss. In his first season at Santa Margarita Catholic, Kanu racked up 28 tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks. Kanu is originally from Germany, where he was a very good club soccer player. In October of 2020, Kanu moved to California, where he played organized football for the first time in the spring of 2021.

Ohio State capped their season off as national champions

A team was going to win a national championship unlike ever before in this new 12-team College Football Playoff. As many as four postseason wins would be required to hoist the trophy. Ohio State wound up doing so, winning every game by double digits along the way.

There has been discussion about whether or not Ohio State’s postseason is the greatest run in college football history. FOX’s Mark Ingram gave his answer, one Buckeye fans will be quite happy with. For him, it’s not just winning four games but in the matter of which Ohio State did so.

“When you talk about the path they had and now they made those teams look pedestrian, it definitely is,” Ingram said. “… It was very impressive run for them to win the national championship and they did it by dominating everyone.”
