Ryan Day and Ohio State are already curating some major momentum on the recruiting trail for the 2025 cycle.

Over the weekend, the Buckeyes landed a commitment from Houston North Shore five-star cornerback Devin Sanchez, the No. 6 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking. His pledge gave Ohio State a fifth commit in its 2025 class — which now ranks No. 2 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

There’s another elite corner that OSU is in heavy pursuit of in the 2025 class, too. Conroe (Texas) four-star CB Dorian Brew included the Buckeyes in his top 10 schools back in November. On Monday, Ohio State recruiting insider Alex Gleitman logged a prediction in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine for Brew to commit to Ohio State.

Brew is the No. 21 overall prospect and No. 3 CB in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 6 player in Texas.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder visited Columbus in October 2022 and this past June. Secondary coach Tim Walton is leading the charge for the Buckeyes and has already developed a solid relationship with the elite DB — who was originally being recruited by most as a wide receiver.

“Coach Walton’s a pretty cool guy. He’s a pretty good coach too. He coached Jalen Ramsey in the NFL when he was an NFL coach. That’s pretty cool because he’s one of the top corners in the league,” Brew told On3’s Chad Simmons last summer. “Ohio State being close to home, that being my mom’s school, I’ve been watching that school since I was a little kid. It’s one of my dream schools and it’s been on the top of my list for a while.”

Buckeyes pushing for another top-notch recruiting class

Ohio State signed 20 prospects during the 2024 Early Signing Period back in December — including Five-Star Plus+ WR Jeremiah Smith, the No. 1 overall prospect. The class ranks No. 5 in the nation, continuing the high standard of recruiting in Columbus.

The current crop of 2025 commits is now headlined by Sanchez, but also includes another pair of top-100 recruits. Bellefontaine (Ohio) four-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair has skyrocketed up the On3 Industry Ranking and is now the No. 19 prospect and No. 3 signal-caller, as of Jan. 9.

He pledged last June and has since been joined by Baltimore St. Frances Academy four-star CB Blake Woodby, the No. 69 overall recruit and No. 8 CB in the cycle. Cocoa (Fla.) four-star WR Jayvan Boggs and Akron (Ohio) Archbishop Hoban three-star linebacker Eli Lee round out a terrific start to the OSU 2025 class.

Ohio State will now keep the pressure on to try and land Brew — who’s top schools also includes the likes of Michigan, Texas, Penn State and Oregon. He’s currently the 13th highest-ranked uncommitted prospect in the 2025 cycle.

“The schools on my list are known for development or the coach is known to be good at developing DBs and getting them to the next level,” Brew told On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
