Ohio State freshman CB Devin Sanchez shows off insane weight gain

Ohio State consistently brings in top recruiting classes, usually headlined by a few potential superstars. Cornerback Devin Sanchez has an opportunity to be the latest. Sanchez finished as the No. 1 player at his position, leaving the Lone Star State to play for the Buckeyes.
Being an early enrollee brings a ton of opportunities and Sanchez has bulked up with a college nutrition department plus a strength and conditioning program. Arriving in Columbus at just under 180 pounds, Sanchez is already nearing 200 pounds on the scale.
The exact weight gain, according to his Instagram story, is 17 pounds. Certainly, the type of body transformation needed in order to play football at the next level. Sanchez will be hoping to make a massive impact as a true freshman and now has the build of seasoned veterans.

Sanchez played high school football at Houston (TX) North Shore, where he was a Five-Star Plus+ prospect. He was the No. 6overall recruit in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
“Comfortable in working on an island in man coverage,” On3’s scouting report of Sanchez said. “Has smooth and technical footwork. Shows instincts and ball skills. Does a great job staying attached on vertical routes. Even when he gives up a catch, still manages to be in good position. A one-way, specialized cornerback prospect.

“Will need to add physicality to his game as he tends to shy away from contact as a tackler. High-end traits and polish make him the safest bet in coverage in the cycle with his ceiling likely to be determined by his development as a run defender and open-field tackler.”
Ohio State got an early commitment from Sanchez as Alabama and Texas were on the losing ends of the recruitment. Holding on until signing day was not easy but Ryan Day‘s staff got the job done. Sanchez will join the program with a ton of expectations and if the work ethic with a 17-pound weight gain says anything, the mindset is certainly there.
Soon enough, spring practice will get underway where Sanchez is set to go up against one of college football’s top wide receiver rooms. Coaches will get a great idea of how the first-year player will fare early on, potentially having another phenom on their hands.
