Ryan Day discusses how he is helping develop CJ Stroud in Year Two
One of the best returning quarterbacks in college football this season will come via the Ohio State Buckeyes in CJ Stroud. Being a Heisman Trophy finalist last season, expectations will be even higher for Stroud this year, hoping to push Ohio State into the College Football Playoff toward a national championship.
Head coach Ryan Day discussed how he is going to help Stroud and continue his development toward becoming an NFL quarterback this season. Day said there will not be much change, wanting to replicate most of everything from the previous year.
“About the same [as year one],” Day said. “You have to do both of those things. But try not to change just because it’s year two. Try to continue the same mentality that we have. We have certain meetings that I’m in there and certain meetings where I give them a little bit of space. But no, we try not to change that just based on the second year.”
Day may not want to change much and for a good reason. Stroud led the Big Ten is completion percentage (71.9%), passing yards (4,435), and passing touchdowns (44). Although the Buckeyes were not able to get to the Big Ten Championship, let alone the playoff, Stroud will have the opportunity for redemption this season with his head coach.
Former Ohio State WR sends message to CJ Stroud after Pro Day
Potential first-round NFL Draft pick Garrett Wilson saw a familiar face throwing him passes during Ohio State’s Pro Day this week. Afterward, he had a message for NFL teams.

CJ Stroud threw to Wilson and Chris Olave that day to get them ready for the draft, which is coming up in April. Stroud isn’t eligible for the draft until next year, but Ryan Day saw it as not only a chance to make Wilson and Olave feel comfortable but also used it as an opportunity for Stroud to show off his skills.
Wilson then took to Twitter to shout out Stroud after what could’ve been the last time the two connected. The operative word, of course, is “could’ve.”
“Hopefully that wasn’t the last time,” Wilson tweeted, “but just in case… it’s been a pleasure @CJ7STROUD.”
Stroud still has at least one more year left before he can declare for the draft, but that didn’t stop Wilson from advocating for a potential reunion down the road. It wouldn’t be the first time a college quarterback reunites with one of his old receivers.
