Columbus, Ohio saw some cold temperatures and snowfall on Wednesday, but that didn’t stop the Buckeyes from practicing outside as they prepare for their final road test of the season against Maryland. Ohio State didn’t practice in the snow last year, but were eager to this season, which head coach Ryan Day addressed Thursday.

“I just don’t think we got any snow last year, we certainly did yesterday,” Day said. “It was coming down sideways and it’s been an interesting year so far in November just getting a bunch of different weather and that’s okay.”

As the season gets closer and closer to reaching its end, the weather becomes more of an important factor in games, especially in the Big Ten conference. Conditions at Big Ten conference campuses will be frigid and likely unpredictable for the remainder for the season, which the Buckeyes are prepping for.

“That’s part of November, that’s why we’ve been working hard at preparing for this and didn’t know it would be like the way it was once we were out there, there were a couple of points it was hard seeing the film, but it was good,” Day said.

The Buckeyes have faced harsh conditions in their last two weeks of action, with heavy rainfall and 30-mile-per-hour winds in their game versus Northwestern and some snowfall in their last home game against Indiana. Ohio State was able to pull out wins in each of those matchups, as Day believes they’re adjusting to the elements just fine.

“The guys had great energy at practice and really didn’t skip a beat. It was kind of snowing pretty hard on Saturday, so our guys seem to becoming immune to it,” Day said.

The Buckeyes’ immunity to the elements is surely a good sign for them, as their season finale matchup last season against rival Michigan featured cold temperatures, snow, and their most crucial loss of the season that withheld them from their fifth straight appearance in the Big Ten Championship game.

The elements will definitely have an impact on the remainder of Ohio State’s regular season schedule, and their ability to adapt to those elements could be a crucial factor in their pursuit of a conference championship and College Football Playoff appearance.
