Ohio State running back Miyan Williams suffered an injury in the first half of their 44-31 victory over Penn State this weekend and did not return to the game for the Buckeyes. Head coach Ryan Day gave an injury update on the status of his running back on Monday, but not before giving a disclaimer on how he’ll be delivering news regarding injuries moving forward for the team.

“So I think what we’ve got to do is stick to the policy with the injuries, we’ve kind of gotten loose with that and that’s my fault,” Day said. “I think we gotta go back to the availability report that we kind of built our policy last year, because once I start going down the road with one person, then it goes to somebody else, and I just think it’s the right thing to do to protect the players.”

The nature of Williams’ injury was obscure during the ball game, but Day informed the media of what exactly happened on his second carry of the ball game that led to him missing the remainder of their conference road matchup this weekend.

“That being said, on Saturday that was a very strange thing that happened. He was over by the sideline and when he got to the sideline the chains crew didn’t drop the chains, so his hand and his arm got caught up in the chain marker, and he got banged up,” Day said.

Williams’ upper-body injury he suffered sounds like a unique case of wrong place wrong time, but Day did confirm that his injury was not a severe one, and hopefully for the Buckeyes, they can see their running back return to action for them sooner than later.

“So I don’t really have an update on him, because I feel like once I give an update on one I gotta give it on somebody else, but I guess the best thing I can say is it’s not serious,” Day concluded

Williams may have only received two carries for the Buckeyes before his injury, but still managed to find the end zone on a four-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Running back Treveyon Henderson took a large majority of the workload for the remainder of the game following Williams’ injury, finishing the day with 16 carries for 78 yards and two touchdowns.

Henderson is definitely capable of being the Buckeye’s lead back by himself, but Williams makes them one of the best one-two backfield punches in the country with his presence, which Ohio State is hoping to see return soon.
