Ryan Day has no changes on plan for play-calling in 2023
Ohio State‘s offense has been prolific for several consecutive years, boasting one of the nation’s top three scoring units in three of the last four seasons. And with things consistently firing on all cylinders for the Buckeyes, why change?
Head coach Ryan Day was asked recently during Buckeyes fall camp if he has any sense of how he’ll handle play calling ahead of the team’s latest scrimmage and the season. To which Day kept his answer short and sweet.
“No, nothing new yet,” Day smiled and said.
Day may not have any new developments regarding his offense, but several new and important pieces to the offensive puzzle this season starting with new offensive coordinator Brian Hartline.
Hartline was promoted from within the program this offseason, working his way up as a graduate assistant at Ohio State in 2017 to the team’s offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach now. His familiarity with the program is unquestioned, as he also played wide receiver himself in Columbus during his collegiate day. But he definitely has his work cut out for him as he enters his first season as an offensive coordinator with a new starting quarterback under center.
With two-time Big Ten Conference offensive player and quarterback of the year CJ Stroud moving on to the NFL, either Devin Brown and Kyle McCord will be starting the season for the Buckeyes in what would be the first career start for either quarterback.

Both were highly touted recruits out of high school, ranked five-star prospects that were ranked the No. 5 quarterbacks in their respective recruiting classes according to On3’s Industry Ranking.
There’s no doubt there’s some offensive uncertainty in some areas heading into the 2023 season, but given the track record in Columbus, there shouldn’t be much to worry about for Buckeyes fans.
Emeka Egbuka makes acrobatic catch in fall camp
Emeka Egbuka had some of the best ball skills in the country coming out of high school. Simply put, he was the No. 1 ranked wide receiver in the 2021 cycle for a reason. Egbuka even reeled in Gatorade Player of the Year honors in 2020 for Steilacoom (Steilacoom, Washington). Once he got to start last year for the Buckeyes, he wasted little time in showing off his incredible ball skills–hauling in 1,151 receiving yards and 10 touchdown catches. He looks to be one of the next great wide receivers in Scarlet and Gray.
On Saturday in fall camp, Egbuka was at it again, tipping a ball to himself and reeling it in while falling to the ground.
Check out the catch here as he hauls in a beauty from Ohio State quarterback, Kyle McCord.
