Oklahoma State transfer guard Isaac Likekele has committed to play at Ohio State for the 2022-23 season, he announced Wednesday via Twitter. He will have one season of eligibility remaining after spending the first four years of his college career with the Cowboys.

Likekele immediately entered the starting lineup as a true freshman in 2018-19, going on to become one of the most valuable players on the team over the next few seasons. He ends his career in Stillwater with an average of 8.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. During the 2020-21 season, he helped lead the Cowboys to a four seed in the NCAA Tournament, where they lost in the second round to Oregon State.

Likekele came to Stillwater as a three-star recruit after helping lead Mansfield Timberview (TX) High School to a 5A state championship in 2017. In 2019, he became just the fourth player in Oklahoma State history to win gold with USA Basketball at the FIBA U19 World Cup, joining Matt Clark (1979), Marcus Smart (2013) and Jawun Evans (2015).

Isaac Likekele ranks as the No. 48 transfer point guard according to On3’s Transfer Portal Rankings. He leaves Oklahoma State ranking third in program history in career assists (441), as well as eighth in career steals (160). His commitment comes just after a visit with the Buckeyes program this week.

Ohio State already went into the transfer portal for two huge additions, bringing in Wright State transfer guard Tanner Holden and West Virginia transfer guard Sean McNeil. Both players averaged double-digits in scoring for their schools a season ago, and they’ll be tasked with being two of the leading scorers for the Buckeyes next season.

Likekele won’t be asked to be a major scoring factor, although he can contribute on the offensive end. Likekele brings defensive pedigree to an Ohio State roster that certainly wasn’t good enough on defense a year ago. He can step in and provide a much-needed presence on that end of the floor.
